Profile

Okada Kiln was built in Edo period and it has been carried on for over 200 years. It is the place of five minutes’ drive from the Higashihagi station, JR Sanin Line. There is the Hagi Reverberatory furnace which is designated as a national historic site near the kiln. Yuh-san manages the kiln with his son Yasushi-san together. Hagi-yaki pottery are fired in the climbing kiln which was also used by the first generation potter, and patterns made by kiln effects are shown unexpectedly. Okada-san always tries to develop a brand new filed. All staffs do radio exercise at 8:00 am. Yuh-san has spread out the expression range of Hagi Ware with the technique of Ensai (using various shaped paper and spraying engobe). Yasushi-san makes soft tone of the glaze which reminds us of clear translucent color like the Japan Sea called Tanseiyu. Soft and profound texture give us the gentle space where we can escape from the noise of urban life.
